Tabadulat vs UAE CFD Brokers: What Muslim Investors Need to Know

Thinking about investing or trading with Equiti, ADSS, Daman Markets, or Century Financial? Here’s what Muslim investors should understand about the products these UAE-regulated brokers offer, from direct stocks to CFDs, and how a purpose-built Halal brokerage takes a different approach.

Introduction

Equiti, ADSS, Daman Markets, and Century Financial are all well-established, regulated brokers in the UAE. For many active traders, they offer a wide range of trading products and features.

This comparison isn't about questioning their credibility; they're legitimate, regulated businesses. Nor are all four CFD-only brokers: ADSS offers direct stock investing alongside CFDs, while Century Financial provides access to cash equities and other market products alongside its leveraged trading offering. Instead, this comparison asks a different question: how does a brokerage built specifically around Shariah-compliant investing differ from conventional multi-product brokers that may also offer CFDs, direct equities, or swap-free features?

What Is a CFD, and Why Does It Matter?

A Contract for Difference (CFD) lets you speculate on an asset's price movement, a stock, index, commodity, or currency pair, without ever owning it. You and the broker simply exchange the difference in price between opening and closing the trade.

This raises three specific Shariah concerns:

  • Gharar (excessive uncertainty) and maysir (speculation), many scholars view CFDs as haram largely for this reason.
  • Riba (interest), positions held overnight typically attract swap fees, which are structurally a form of interest. Swap-free accounts remove this specific charge, but not the rest of the structure.
  • No ownership of the underlying asset, profit is expected to come from real ownership and genuine economic activity, not from speculating on price differences of something you never hold. Even Daman Markets' own educational material describes CFDs as contracts to exchange price differences rather than a transfer of ownership.

These concerns apply specifically to CFD transactions. They should not be applied to every product offered by a broker simply because that broker also offers CFDs. Where a broker provides direct or cash equity investing, the ownership structure is different and should be assessed separately.

What the Four UAE CFD Providers Offer

Equiti is regulated by the UAE Capital Market Authority (CMA) under Category 1 license No. 20200000026 and Category 5 license No. 20200000352. Its UAE website markets shares through Share CFDs, which provide exposure to share-price movements without direct ownership of the underlying stocks. Equiti also offers CFDs across other asset classes, including indices, commodities, ETFs and cryptocurrencies. Its swap-free offering can remove certain overnight financing charges under applicable terms, but a swap-free CFD remains a CFD and does not provide ownership of the underlying asset.

‍

ADSS is regulated by the CMA under Category 1 License No. 305027 and Category 5 License No. 20200000217. Unlike a CFD-only model, ADSS offers both CFD trading and direct stock investing. Its official stock-investing materials state that clients can invest directly in US stocks and ETFs, including through fractional ownership, and it also offers access to regional stocks. This means an ADSS investor may own the underlying security when using its direct stock-investing service, while CFD positions remain derivative contracts without ownership of the underlying asset. ADSS also advertises swap-free trading on certain products, while its website has referenced Islamic swap-free accounts.

‍

Daman Markets Financial Services LLC is regulated by the UAE Capital Market Authority (CMA) under Category 1 License No. 20200000356 as a trading broker of OTC derivatives and currencies in the spot market. Its Client Agreement states that, where the product is a share CFD, the client does not have an interest in or ownership right over the underlying share. Daman Markets offers CFDs across multiple markets and provides swap-free arrangements subject to its applicable terms and product restrictions.

Century Financial is licensed and regulated by the CMA under license numbers 20200000028 and 301044, covering activities including international-market trading, OTC derivatives and currencies in the spot market, financial consultations and promotion. Century should not be characterised as CFD-only. Its official website describes access to cash equity trading and direct market access to exchanges including DFM and ADX, alongside CFDs and other trading products. Accordingly, ownership depends on the product selected: cash-equity transactions can involve ownership of the security, whereas CFDs provide price exposure without ownership of the underlying asset.

‍

Swap-Free Doesn't Automatically Mean Shariah-Compliant

A swap-free feature addresses one specific aspect of conventional leveraged trading: overnight financing charges. For Muslim investors, however, assessing a product's Shariah compliance may require looking beyond whether a swap is charged.

For a CFD transaction, relevant considerations can include:

  1. The derivative structure itself:  the investor does not own the underlying asset.
  2. Leverage: many CFD products allow investors to control positions larger than their deposited capital.
  3. Short selling: CFDs can allow traders to take positions that profit from falling prices without owning the underlying asset.

This distinction is important because a broker may offer both direct equities and CFDs. A direct stock purchase should therefore not be treated as structurally identical to a CFD simply because both are available through the same broker.

What Tabadulat Offers Instead

Tabadulat is a self-directed, Shariah-compliant brokerage regulated by ADGM's FSRA under Financial Services Permission No. 250032, covering "Dealing in Investments as Principal (Matched)" and "Shariah Compliant Regulated Activities."

The key distinction is therefore not simply that Tabadulat offers stock ownership while every competitor does not. Rather, Tabadulat is designed around Shariah-compliant investing as its core model, with Shariah screening and governance integrated into the investment experience.

When you buy a Halal stock through Tabadulat, you own the investment rather than entering a price-difference contract. The platform does not offer leverage, short selling, or derivatives as part of its investing model.

Pricing: whole-share US stock trades are commission-free. Holding positions carries a 0.25%/year custody fee, fractional trades carry a $0.94 flat fee, and UAE residents pay 5% VAT on those two charges. No subscription, no account minimum, no leverage, no derivatives.

Zakat tools: Tabadulat is currently building a Zakat calculator, on the roadmap, not live yet.

Savings: Tabadulat's Murabaha Savings (None of the Four CFD Providers Have One)

The comparison also extends beyond trading. Tabadulat has developed Murabaha Savings around a Shariah-compliant Commodity Murabaha structure. Based on the publicly available product information reviewed for this comparison, an equivalent dedicated Commodity Murabaha savings product was not identified among Equiti, ADSS, Daman Markets or Century Financial.

Tabadulat's savings product is built on Commodity Murabaha, a trade-based transaction rather than a conventional interest-bearing savings structure:

  • How it works: your capital buys tangible assets, sold at a pre-agreed markup, a fixed, interest-free profit rate set at the start of the term.
  • Tiers: a zero-fee structure, Bronze ($1k–$9.9k), Silver ($10k–$99.9k), Gold ($100k–$499.9k), and Platinum ($500k–$999.9k).
  • Availability: currently on a waitlist basis, so this is announced rather than fully live today.

The Structural Difference

The distinction is more nuanced than “real stocks versus CFDs.” ADSS and Century Financial also provide access to direct or cash equity investing, so asset ownership alone does not separate Tabadulat from every conventional UAE broker.

The more meaningful difference is how Shariah compliance is incorporated into the platform. Tabadulat is purpose-built around Shariah-compliant investing, with AAOIFI-based screening, Shariah oversight and restrictions on leverage, derivatives and short selling integrated into its product design.

By contrast, the other brokers reviewed here operate broader conventional trading and investment platforms. Some provide direct equities, some offer swap-free arrangements, and several provide leveraged CFD products. Muslim investors using those platforms may therefore need to assess the structure and Shariah suitability of the specific product they choose rather than assuming that every product on the platform follows the same framework.

‍

Which Is Right for You?

Choose Tabadulat if:

  • You want to own real, AAOIFI-screenedHalal stocks and ETFs directly
  • You want no leverage, no derivatives, and no short selling, structurally, not by choice
  • You want real-time compliance alerts, zero riba on idle cash, and aHalal way to grow savings
  • You want Shariah oversight that's a regulatory condition, not an account feature

Consider a regulated UAE CFD broker if:

  • You want a broader mix of conventional trading products, including leveraged CFDs
  • You need direct equity access to particular exchanges or markets offered by brokers such as ADSS or Century Financial
  • You specifically need forex, indices, commodities or other products Tabadulat does not currently offer
  • You are comfortable assessing the Shariah suitability of individual products separately

‍

Conclusion

Equiti, ADSS, Daman Markets and Century Financial are regulated UAE brokers, but they should not all be grouped together as CFD-only platforms. Equiti and Daman Markets prominently offer CFD-based trading, while ADSS combines CFDs with direct stock investing and Century Financial provides access to cash equities alongside CFDs and other products.

That makes the distinction with Tabadulat more specific and more defensible. Tabadulat's proposition is not simply that it provides asset ownership while the others do not. It is that the brokerage has been purpose-built around Shariah-compliant investing, combining ownership of screened assets with integrated Halal screening, Shariah governance, compliance monitoring, no leveraged or derivative trading, and a Commodity Murabaha savings proposition.

For Muslim investors who want those principles embedded into the platform itself rather than assessing each conventional product individually, that is the key difference.
