Is Reed's (REED) stock Halal?
As of the September 2026 screening, Reed's, Inc. (REED) does not meet the AAOIFI Shariah Standard No. 21 threshold for the interest-bearing debt screen, so the stock is not currently classified as Shariah compliant. It is re-screened every month and can regain compliance if its financial structure changes.
Reed's is a U.S.-based producer of natural, handcrafted beverages, best known for being America’s leading ginger beer brand. Reed’s is also the owner of the Virgil’s brand, which offers a range of naturally flavored craft sodas and zero-sugar varieties, as well as Flying Cauldron, a non-alcoholic butterscotch beer. The company’s unique beverages are distinguished by their use of real ginger root, natural spices, and fruit juices, prepared using proprietary recipes for a premium, authentic taste. For Muslim investors, though, the most pressing question is simpler: is Reed's a Halal investment?
Is Reed's Shariah compliant?
Food, household goods and everyday retail are permissible activities, with one watch item: incidental revenue from alcohol, tobacco or conventional financial services must stay below the 5% ceiling of AAOIFI Shariah Standard No. 21. For Reed's, that is usually the screen worth reading first.
Does Reed's pass the business activity test?
The activity screen is only part of the picture this month: Reed's currently fails the interest-bearing debt screen, so the overall verdict is not compliant regardless of the business itself. The watch item is the product mix: any alcohol, tobacco or similar lines count against the 5% ceiling.
Is Reed's' income Halal?
Yes, within AAOIFI's tolerance. Reed's' income from non-permissible sources stays below 5% of revenue in the September 2026 screening.
Does Reed's meet AAOIFI's debt and investment ratio requirements?
Not in full. Interest bearing debt currently exceeds the 30% cap, while the other ratio stays within it. One breach is enough to fail the screening; the ratios are reassessed monthly under our Shariah Supervisory Board.
