Is CHS (CHSCL) stock Halal?
September 2026 AAOIFI screening result for CHS, Inc. (CHSCL): non-permissible income, pass. Interest-bearing investments, fail. Interest-bearing debt, fail. Preference shares, fail. CHS, Inc. is not currently Shariah compliant. Re-screened monthly against AAOIFI Shariah Standard No. 21.
As a perpetual security, it does not have a maturity date, meaning it can remain outstanding indefinitely unless the company decides to redeem it. This asset typically holds priority over common stock in the event of a liquidation or bankruptcy, offering an added layer of financial security. It finds particular resonance within the agricultural sector, as CHS operates extensively in grain trading, crop nutrient provision, food processing, and energy. Before any of that matters to a Muslim investor, one question comes first: is CHS stock Halal?
Is CHS Shariah compliant?
Consumer staples companies like CHS face the screening question at the shelf, not the balance sheet: does any revenue come from alcohol, tobacco or other impermissible lines? AAOIFI Shariah Standard No. 21 tolerates such income only below 5% of revenue, with the financial ratios checked behind it.
Does CHS pass the business activity test?
The activity screen is only part of the picture this month: CHS currently fails the interest-bearing investments, interest-bearing debt and preference share screens, so the overall verdict is not compliant regardless of the business itself. The watch item is the product mix: any alcohol, tobacco or similar lines count against the 5% ceiling.
Is CHS' income Halal?
Yes, within AAOIFI's tolerance. CHS' income from non-permissible sources stays below 5% of revenue in the September 2026 screening.
Does CHS meet AAOIFI's debt and investment ratio requirements?
No. Both ratios currently breach the 30% caps: interest bearing investments and interest bearing debt each exceed the limit AAOIFI permits for a Halal investment. The ratios move with the share price as well as the balance sheet, and our Shariah Supervisory Board has CHSCL re-screened every month. CHS also fails the preference share screen this month.
