Is ChargePoint (CHPT) stock Halal?
September 2026 AAOIFI screening result for ChargePoint Holdings, Inc. (CHPT): non-permissible income, pass. Interest-bearing investments, fail. Interest-bearing debt, fail. Preference shares, pass. ChargePoint Holdings, Inc. is not currently Shariah compliant. Re-screened monthly against AAOIFI Shariah Standard No. 21.
ChargePoint is a leading provider of electric vehicle (EV) charging technology solutions. The company designs, develops, and markets networked EV charging systems integrated with cloud-based services that enable charging station owners to manage their infrastructure efficiently. These cloud services allow drivers to locate, reserve, authenticate, and transact charging sessions seamlessly across ChargePoint's open platform, which supports interoperability with hardware from multiple manufacturers. Before any of that matters to a Muslim investor, one question comes first: is ChargePoint stock Halal?
Is ChargePoint Shariah compliant?
Industrial businesses like ChargePoint usually pass the activity screen without drama. The harder test is financial: heavy assets mean heavy financing, and AAOIFI Shariah Standard No. 21 tolerates interest bearing debt and investments only below 30% of market capitalisation, ratios that shift with every move in the share price.
Does ChargePoint pass the business activity test?
The activity screen is only part of the picture this month: ChargePoint currently fails the interest-bearing investments and interest-bearing debt screens, so the overall verdict is not compliant regardless of the business itself. The activity itself raises no Shariah objection; the scrutiny belongs to the financing.
Is ChargePoint's income Halal?
Yes, within AAOIFI's tolerance. ChargePoint's income from non-permissible sources stays below 5% of revenue in the September 2026 screening.
Does ChargePoint meet AAOIFI's debt and investment ratio requirements?
No. Both ratios currently breach the 30% caps: interest bearing investments and interest bearing debt each exceed the limit AAOIFI permits for a Halal investment. The ratios move with the share price as well as the balance sheet, and our Shariah Supervisory Board has CHPT re-screened every month.
