Is Campbell's (CPB) stock Halal?
The Campbell's Co. (CPB) is not Shariah compliant in the September 2026 AAOIFI screening: it fails the interest-bearing debt screen. Tabadulat re-screens CPB monthly, and a stock can return to compliance when new financial reports change its ratios.
Campbell's is a leading American food and beverage manufacturer known primarily for its range of branded soups, simple meals, beverages, and snacks. The company’s core business encompasses the production of ready-to-serve and condensed soups, alongside innovative meal solutions and snack brands that are staples in households and foodservice sectors. Operating under iconic brands such as Campbell’s, Pepperidge Farm, and V8, it caters to diverse consumer preferences in the food industry. Before any of that matters to a Muslim investor, one question comes first: is Campbell's stock Halal?
Is Campbell's Shariah compliant?
Consumer staples companies like Campbell's face the screening question at the shelf, not the balance sheet: does any revenue come from alcohol, tobacco or other impermissible lines? AAOIFI Shariah Standard No. 21 tolerates such income only below 5% of revenue, with the financial ratios checked behind it.
Does Campbell's pass the business activity test?
The activity screen is only part of the picture this month: Campbell's currently fails the interest-bearing debt screen, so the overall verdict is not compliant regardless of the business itself. The watch item is the product mix: any alcohol, tobacco or similar lines count against the 5% ceiling.
Is Campbell's' income Halal?
Yes, within AAOIFI's tolerance. Campbell's' income from non-permissible sources stays below 5% of revenue in the September 2026 screening.
Does Campbell's meet AAOIFI's debt and investment ratio requirements?
Not in full. Interest bearing debt currently exceeds the 30% cap, while the other ratio stays within it. One breach is enough to fail the screening; the ratios are reassessed monthly under our Shariah Supervisory Board.
